We come to celebrate the Nativity of the Lord. God’s plan for the salvation of the world takes shape as the Eternal Word of God is made flesh and” pitches His tent in our midst”. The child whose birth we celebrate comes into the world, through the instrumentality of Mary, to save us from sin and to bring us the promise of eternal life. What an event to celebrate!
Each of us is called by the Lord to make him real in the world in which we live. So to speak, to give God’s Word, given to us in Sacred Scripture, flesh, just as Mary did on that first Christmas. To do this, we are challenged to live the values of the Gospel each day of the year. To practice them in all of our relationships. To make Christmas real we must forgive others as God has forgiven us. We must live to serve the needs of others not to be served by them. We must extend Christian Hospitality to the stranger and the foreigner. We must be agents of reconciliation so that Christ’s peace may reign in our hearts and in our world. We must bring Christ’s light to all those dark places where sin and despair flourish. A mighty challenge that with God’s grace and help we can achieve.
May the Lord bless each and every one of you. May He grant health and peace to you all your days. Merry Christmas!
